Eindhoven:
AC Milan entered in the Champions League final for the second time in three seasons as a late header by Massimo Ambrosini broke hearts of PSV Eindhoven fans. Ambrosini's header in the first minute of second-half stoppage time ultimately proved the difference as Milan advanced to the final of Europe's premier club competition on the away-goal rule despite losing the second leg of its semifinal clash with PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday, 3-1. Milan, which will meet Liverpool in the final in Istanbul, Turkey on May 25, held a 2-0 lead after the first leg but saw its advantage disappear after goals from Ji-Sung Park in the ninth minute and Phillip Cocu in the 65th. It will be AC Milan's 10th European Cup final. "Our plan was to score one goal," AC Milan Coach Carlo Ancelotti said. "Unfortunately this time had to wait a lot for it." PSV had the upper hand PSV dominated most of the game, and Milan didn't respond until after Phillip Cocu scored in the 65th minute to make it 2-0 - a result which would have sent the game into extra time. Cocu scored again in the closing minutes after Ambrosini, but it was not enough. The match raises doubts about Milan's veteran defenders, who average over 30 years of age and who allowed as many goals to PSV as it had in its previous 10 Champions League matches this season. Last year, Milan was eliminated from the Champions League by Deportivo La Coruna, winning the first leg 4-1 but collapsing in the second to lose 4-0. "It was an exhausting match, but it was important for us to avoid another Deportivo," striker Andriy Shevchenko said. "This time we had more luck. I believe we deserve to make it to the final."
