Andrei Arshavin set for Zenit return as Denisov exits

Arshavin was one of the stars of Zenit's 2008 UEFA Cup-winning side and Russia's Euro 2008 campaign. He then moved to Arsenal but his career failed to flourish despite a promising start and he spent most of the time on the bench.

Moscow: Former Russia captain Andrei Arshavin is set to return to his native Zenit St Petersburg after five seasons at English Premier League side Arsenal, reports said Friday.

The reported return of Arshavin to the club that launched his career comes as one of Zenit's most experienced players, current Russian skipper Igor Denisov, is set to leave for big spenders Anzhi Makhachkala.

Arshavin was in Saint Petersburg on Friday and held talks with Zenit manager Luciano Spalletti and also Alexei Miller, the chief executive of the club's owner, Russian gas giant Gazprom.
