Sao Paulo :
1999 champions Palmeiras narrowly avoided elimination from the second-round of the Copa Libertadores tournament with a 0-0 draw against Paraguay's Cerro Porteno in Sao Paolo on Thursday night. The Copa Libertadores tournament is South America's equivalent of the UEFA Champions League. The Brazilian club finished second in Group-4 with nine points from six matches. Fellow Brazilian outfit Santo Andre's 6-0 route of Deportivo Tachira of Venezuela would have put them through on goal difference had Palmeiras lost the match. Unbeaten Cerro Porteno topped the group and will now play Atletico Paranaense in the quarter finals. Palmeiras will meet cross-town rivals Sao Paolo. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
