Rosario:
Boca Juniors travelled to Rosario Central's El Gigante de Arroyito stadium on day two of the Argentine Clausura on Sunday.
Rosario, coming off the back of a three-nil defeat in their opening game, were looking for their first points and goals of the campaign whilst Boca were hoping to bounce back after a 3-1 reverse away to Bolivar of Bolivia in the Libertadores Cup in midweek.
It was Boca who struck the first blow on Sunday when 17-year-old midfielder Neri Cardozo fired them ahead just a minute before half-time.
Two minutes after the break, Cardozo was quickest to react to a cross from the left and Boca found themselves two-nil up.
Rosario were dealt a further blow when they had Diego Rivarola sent off after 62 minutes.
Rivarola's departure came after the midfielder had a close-range effort saved by Boca goalkeeper Roberto Abbondanzieri.
A fine save but irrelevant since Rivarola was ruled offside - the player didn't agree and made his feelings clear in no uncertain terms to the assistant referee, whose complaint led to the main match official brandishing his red card.
However, ten-man Rosario did manage to pull one goal back - this fine angled effort from Gustavo Belloso beating Abbondanzieri 13 minutes from time.
No more goals though so a 2-1 win for Boca who find themselves in eighth position after two games, two points behind early leaders Talleres de Cordoba and Velez Sarsfield.
For Rosario a second successive defeat leaves them in a group of four teams stuck on the bottom with no points after the first two games. (AP)
