Phillip Cocu and Jefferson Farfan scored a goal each on Tuesday as PSV Eindhoven advanced to the second round of the Champions League with a 2-0 win over Fenerbahce. Cocu headed in Farfan's free kick in the 14th minute, and Farfan added the other in the 85th by flicking the ball into the net after being set up Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink's header. "You don't get anything for free at this level,'' Cocu said. "We were motivated and I think we deserved to win,'' he added. The win left PSV in second place in Group E after AC Milan beat Schalke 3-2 in the other group match to finish first. Schalke moves to the UEFA Cup while Fenerbahce is eliminated. Despite PSV's early goal, Fenerbahce dominated for long stretches with Nicolas Anelka's pace proving difficult for the hosts. Fenerbahce goalkeeper Demirel Volkan denied Farfan from close range in the 30th minute. Three minutes later, Gomes made an outstanding save to keep the Turkish team from scoring. With PSV occasionally finding Stephen Appiah's speed difficult to counter, Fenerbahce continued to have strong chances in the second half as Anelka latched on to a loose ball in the 48th minute before firing wide. A minute's silence was observed before the match in honor of Frits Philips, son of the founder of Philips Electronics, who died Monday night at 100. Philips is PSV's major shareholder.
