Rivaldo scored an 87th-minute winner for Olympiakos in the Champions League on Tuesday, handing new Real Madrid coach Juan Ramon Lopez Caro a 2-1 loss in his debut. The Brazilian slotted in a close-range winner after a pass from Yaya Toure, who dribbled deep into the Madrid area before releasing the ball to Rivaldo. Madrid had already qualified from Group F, and Lopez Caro - chosen after the Spanish giants sacked Vanderlei Luxemburgo on Sunday - fielded mostly second-team players. The visitors took an early lead in the seventh minute with Sergio Ramos heading in a curling free kick from Raul Bravo. Madrid almost made it 2-0 in the 15th when a free kick from Julio Baptista on the edge of the area hit Olympiakos' bar. In the 31st, a shot by Robinho was cleared off the line by Michalis Kapsis. Olympiakos played more aggressively in the second half and equalized in the 50th with a superb looping volley from Erol Bulut - the club's first player from Turkey. The hosts should have gone ahead in the 69th after an unmarked Rivaldo had a clear shot on goal, but his strike went wide. The result was "part of my dream,'' Olympiakos coach Trond Sollied said. The players "showed in the second half what they can do.'' Lyon won Group F with 16 points, while Madrid was second with 10 and Rosenborg and Olympiakos each got four. Rosenborg will play in the UEFA Cup after finishing third, beating Olympiakos on head-to-head results. (AP)
