Real Zaragoza upset the odds to beat Real Madrid 3-2 in extra time and win the Copa del Rey on Wednesday. David Beckham scored a fine free kick to put Real Madrid ahead, but Garcia Dani's goal and a David Villa penalty saw Zaragoza lead 2-1 at half-time. Robert Carlos equalised with another free kick before Zaragoza's Ruben Cani and Madrid's Guti were both sent off for two yellow cards. Substitute Luciano Galletti then scored the winning goal in the second half of extra time. Real Madrid were aiming to complete the first leg of a possible domestic and European treble on Wednesday night when they faced Real Zaragoza in the final of the Copa del Ray. The Spanish Primera Liga leaders are expected to successfully defend their league title and have also reached the quarter-finals stage of the Champions' League. Real dominated the early stages of the match and took a deserved lead in the 23rd minute, when David Beckham fired in an unstoppable free kick. Zaragoza levelled the scores with a rare attack in the 29th minute though - Garcia Dani was the man with the equaliser. And the Primera Liga strugglers would make a further mockery of their underdog status by taking the lead before half-time after David Villa was brought down by Guti to earn a penalty. Villa stepped up to take the spot kick and slotted it in for a 2-1 lead. But, just as Beckham had scored one of his trademark free kicks in the first half, Robert Carlos notched one of his own in the second. The Brazilian smashed in an effort from 35 yards out to make it 2-2. Zaragoza were then reduced to ten men after Ruben Cani was shown a second yellow card in the 69th minute, although Real's Guti would also receive his marching order in the first half of extra time. Substitute Luciano Galletti then scored a priceless goal in the 111th minute of the match, curling in a great long range strike. Zaragoza held on to their 3-2 lead for the remainder of the match and, with Real Madrid's disappointed players looking on, captain Luis Carlos Cuartero lifted the Copa del Rey. (AP)
