Chicago:
Italian giants AC Milan beat the Chicago Fire 3-1 in a friendly at Soldier Field on Wednesday. The Italian visitors showed their experience, jumping to a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute. Veteran defender Paolo Maldini sent the ball to forward Christian Vieri, a recent acquisition from Milan rivals Inter, in the centre of the penalty area. Vieri's shot hit Fire goalkeeper Zach Thornton's chest, but the Italian was able to send the rebound into the net. Levelling the score However the Fire evened the score just one minute later, when Chris Rolfe put a left-footed shot past goalkeeper Valerio Fiori from 18 yards. The American hosts kept Milan at bay up to the half-time whistle, but in the second half the Italians class was apparent. AC Milan made five substitutions at the break and it seemed to work as in the 76th minute Clarence Seedorf dribbled around a number of defenders before crossing to Alberto Gilardino, who scored from 6 yards. Final goal The visitors scored their final goal in injury time when a shot from Serginho hit the crossbar and bounced out, and was ruled by the referee to have crossed the goal line. The replay showed the referee made the right call on the field. AC Milan walked away with a 3 -1 victory over the Chicago Fire in the exhibition match. The Fire has an 11-7-3 record, and is tied for first in the MLS Eastern Division with the New England Revolution. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
