Rio de Janeiro:

The city of Rio de Janeiro has a new hero. Roger, of the Rio-based soccer club Fluminense, is attracting a lot of attention in Brazil as his impressive performances continue to light up what has been a dull Brazilian Championship campaign by his club so far. Having been born in Rio, the 26-year-old midfielder and former Fluminense youth player, feels there is nothing better than playing for the club he has been a part of from an early age. A product of the youth scheme at the club, Roger is enjoying his third spell with the club he grew up at, and it is his most successful by far. His promise saw him join Portuguese club Benfica in 2003, but after being loaned back to his hometown club in January 2004, Roger is now enjoying the best form of his career. There is no doubt where Roger feels more comfortable and it is no coincidence that his return to Rio has inspired impressive performances. (AP)
