Madrid, Spain:
Luis Aragones, the coach of the Spanish national football team, has received criticism from across the football world for allegedly labelling French striker Thierry Henry a "black shit". Aragones' comment was caught on camera as he spoke to Henry's club colleague Jose Antonio Reyes during a training session in Madrid on Wednesday. But Reyes insisted that Aragones was only joking. However, majority of Spanish newspapers and television stations failed to see the funny side and branded Aragones a racist. But two of Spain's leading daily newspapers felt that the situation did not merit comment, while Marca, Spain's best-selling 'paper, defended Aragones' actions. Aragones has denied that he is a racist, stating that he has lots of black friends. But even before Wednesday Aragones had acquired a reputation for being outspoken and he has also been known to use unorthodox coaching methods during his 30-year career.Topics mentioned in this article
