Sao Paulo:
Ten-man Corinthians gained a valuable three points in the Campeonato Brasileiro (Brazilian Championship) on Sunday when they defeated Goias 1-0 at the Pacaembu in Sao Paulo. Fabio Baiano scored the winner two minutes from time with a stunning shot from 20 metres. The home side had Wendel dismissed for a second bookable offence in the 67th minute in a game virtually devoid of chances until Fabio Baiano's winner. With only 34 goals all season and just six in the last six games, Corinthians have one of the poorest strike records in the league, and they wasted a good chance in the 37th minute. Both sides found scoring chances hard to come by in a poor first half. If it was possible, play deteriorated in the second half with chances even rarer. Corinthians, who started the game on 48 points in 10th, had to play the remaining 23 minutes with only 10 men after Wendel was shown a second yellow card for an elbow on Tabata. With two minutes remaining, Corinthians stunned Goias with a goal from Fabio Baiano. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
