Kolkata:
The coaching camp for the Indian soccer probables for the LG Cup and the pre-world cup match against Japan got mired in controversy on the opening day itself. The national selector left in anguish after the players and the chief coach did not turn up at the SAI ground, venue of the camp, here today. Former international Prasun Banerjee, who was appointed selector recently, waited in vain for the 35 probables and chief coach Stephen Constantine for over three hours, before deciding to call it a day. He also alleged that he was kept in the dark about the change in the schedule. "I was told by the AIFF that the camp will start at 8 am. Accordingly, I informed the media and came to the ground only to find that the coach and the players have stayed away" said a fuming Banerjee. 'Unprofessional behaviour' In an apparent attack on Constantine, Banerjee said, "It seems some people are upset over the appointment of selectors. They think that the AIFF have imposed these selectors on them. "If they think that by treating me in such a shabby manner they can get me out of the way, then they are mistaken. I'm not going to quit. But wait until the last," he added. Banerjee said after waiting for a long time in the rain, he came to know from sources that the training session will start tomorrow as Constantine wanted to give rest to the players today. Meanwhile, assistant national coach Aloke Mukherjee confirmed that on-field training will start tomorrow, but said that he was unaware of the unsavoury episode, having just checked into the team hotel.
