The coaching camp for the Indian soccer probables for the LG Cup and the pre-World Cup match against Japan got mired in controversy on the opening day itself. National selector Prasun Banerjee left in anguish after the players and the chief coach did not turn up at the SAI ground, venue of the camp. Banerjee, who was appointed selector recently, waited in vain for the 35 probables and chief coach Stephen Constantine for over three hours along with scores of mediapersons, some coaches of SAI and an All India Football Federation official, before deciding to call it a day. Alleging that he was kept in the dark about the change in the schedule, a fuming Banerjee said, "I was told by the AIFF that the camp will start at 8 am. Accordingly, I informed the media and came to the ground only to find that the coach and the players have stayed away." In an apparent attack on Constantine, who is closetted with the players in a nearby hotel, Banerjee said, "It seems some people are upset over the appointment of selectors." Banerjee said after waiting for a long time in the rain, he came to know from sources that the training session would start on Friday as Constantine wanted his players to rest today.
