Brazil:Leandro Amaral scored a pair of goals - the second with just 10 seconds remaining and set up a third to give Vasco a thrilling 3-0 victory over Argentina's Lanus and a Copa Sudamericana quarterfinals berth.
Vasco, which lost the first game of the home-and-away series 2-0 in Argentina, needed to win by at least two goals on Wednesday and came out buzzing the Argentine net.
The pressure paid off after 29 minutes, when Lanus goalkeeper Carlos Bossio made an excellent reflex save on a header by Amaral, but Leandro Amaral collected the rebound and fired it home for a 1-0 lead.
The Argentines responded, but striker Jose Sand's shot went just wide of the net in the closing minutes of the half.
Vasco midfielder Marcelinho was awarded a yellow-carded in just the opening minute of the second half for a violent foul on striker Lautaro Acosta that nearly sparked fighting between the two teams.
Lanus then took control of the offense, with Sand and Sebastian Blanco missing excellent chances at the goal mouth.
But it was Vasco that found the net at 74 minutes, on a give-and-go from Wagner Diniz to Leandro Amaral. Diniz collected the return pass in full stride and fired under a diving Bossio to make it 2-0.
The score left the teams tied at an aggregate score of 2-2 for the series and facing a penalty shootout to decide the quarterfinalist.
But in the final minute, Guilherme lofted a cross from the left side, Alan Kardec headed the ball to Amaral at the far post, and the striker tapped the ball under Bossio for the deciding goal.
