Lyon:
There were few clear-cut chances in the opening stages of the game.
But Lyon went in front just before half-time, as Brazilian midfielder Fabio dos Santos turned in Milan Baros's cross at the far post.
Television replays suggested he might have been narrowly offside when the ball was played. In the 81st minute, Lyon went 2-0 up.
There looked to be little danger as Kim Kallstrom received the ball 35 metres from goal.
But the Sweden midfielder had time to turn and pick his spot, beating Vedran Runje with a well-struck shot that flew into the bottom corner.
The win was wrapped up in the 90th minute as French international Karim Benzema scored a superb individual effort - Benzema showing just why he is the league's leading scorer, now with nine goals to his name.
The defeat meant Lens stay rooted in the relegation zone with just one win from eight games.
After a stuttering start to the season, Lyon have moved level with Nancy at the top of the standings, with 19 points.
And although Lyon have played a game more, that should still please club president Jean Michel Aulas, with his team seeking an unprecedented seventh successive French league title.
