Madrid:Real Madrid forward Robinho apologized on Thursday for returning late from international duty, not for staying out late to celebrate Brazil's victory.
Robinho was reported to have celebrated into the early hours on October 18 after Brazil's 5-0 win over Ecuador in a World Cup qualifier in Rio de Janeiro.
Robinho and Julio Baptista were both omitted from the Madrid team which lost 2-1 at Espanyol in the Spanish league on Saturday for returning late.
"I shouldn't apologize for going to the party because I was playing for Brazil at that time and we always go out when we win," Robinho said. "I should apologize to the fans, the club and the coach for arriving late. I hope it never happens again."
Robinho and Julio Baptista are expected to be fined after Madrid opened disciplinary procedures against them on Tuesday.
Robinho said the whole situation had been a mix-up.
"We had a problem with the flight from Brazil. We knew we had to be here on time, but we didn't think about the fact that the game was on Saturday - we thought it was on Sunday," he said.
Robinho scored twice in his return Wednesday, leading Madrid to a 4-2 win over Greek club Olympiakos in the Champions League.
"It's been a bit complicated, but everything turned out all right in the end," Robinho said.
"My team won the game yesterday and I played well. Many of the things that have been said aren't true, but I have to reply to those accusations with a good performance on the pitch," he added.
