Kuala Lumpur:
Having finished its group matches, South Korea is still in second spot with 12 points but can be overtaken by Australia, which plays Germany later on Saturday.
Australia has 10 points and a win would take it to 13.
The Netherlands, on nine points, also has an outside chance provided it beats Pakistan by four goals, and if Australia fails to beat Germany.
Germany, which has 16 points, is already assured of being in tomorrow's final.
South Korea has now spurned two chances to reach the finals after throwing away a two-goal lead against Pakistan on Thursday to draw 3-3.
Matt Daly gave Britain the lead in the sixth minute.
South Korea battled to dominate the second half with crisp passing and hard running.
After several near misses, the former Asian champion eventually equalised when Lee Nam Yong's pass was turned in by Seo Jong Ho in the 44th minute.
Off one of its rare breaks, Stephen Dick caused panic in the Korean defense to earn a penalty corner and Richard Mantell's low flick sounded the board to make it 2-1 after 61 minutes.
South Korea hit back a minute late when Nam Yong scored a field goal.
Meanwhile, Malaysia suffered a humiliating 7-2 thrashing by a resurgent Spain. It was Spain's third win of the tournament, giving it a total 11 points in the standings with a plus six goal difference.
Whether it is enough to take it to a third-place playoff will only be known after Holland plays Pakistan and Australia meets Germany.
Holland has nine points and Australia 10 points, both with a plus two goal difference.
