London:Middlesbrough held off a late rally to beat Hull 4-3 and advance to the fourth round of the English FA Cup, and was joined by fellow Premier League club Manchester City. Middlesbrough led 3-0 by the 57th minute of its third-round replay before Hull scored twice in four minutes. Mark Viduka scored his second goal in the 64th minute to make it 4-2, before Hull's Andy Dawson made it 4-3 with his second goal of the match in the 69th. "They had nothing to lose in coming from behind and sometimes you get involved in games like that and you wonder how to stop the rot. "The boys were very disappointed at the end because they feel they've let themselves down but I had to remind them, we are through to the next round and that what matters," Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate said. Manchester City beat Sheffield 2-1. Darius Vassell scored the winner for Man City in the 56th minute, shooting into the top corner after taking a pass from Bernardo Corradi. Stephen Ireland had put City ahead in the 44th minute before Lee Bullen leveled for Sheffield today in the 51st. "We haven't fired on all cylinders and missed a lot of chances, but we are through to the next round and that is what matters in the FA Cup. "The onus is on the Premier League side to make sure there is not an upset. They took us all the way in the first leg. All credit to them," Man City midfielder Joey Barton said. City will play Southampton in the next round. In other third-round replays on Tuesday, it was: Barnsley 0, Southend 2; Coventry 0, Bristol City 2; Ipswich 1, Chester 0; Oldham 0, Wolves 2; and Plymouth 2, Peterborough 1. Middlesbrough will face Bristol City in the fourth round and it will also be: Barnet vs Plymouth, Ipswich vs Swansea, and Wolves vs West Bromwich Albion.
