Mexico City:

Sergio Ponce and Vicente Sanchez scored Wednesday night to give Mexico's Toluca a 2-0 win over Argentina's Boca Juniors in Group 7 of the Copa Libertadores. The Red Devils built up creative attacks through the left, right and center, and soaked up Boca's breaks. Ponce scored in the seventh minute after receiving a cross from Carlos Morales and sending the ball in off the post into the net. Uruguayan Sanchez made his first attempt in the 31st minute, smashing the ball in with a flying header, only to see the linesman wave the flag to signal a controversial offside. But he scored in the 58th, receiving a cross from Morales and finishing with his left foot. Flamengo beat Parana In the night's other Copa matches, Flamengo beat Parana 1-0 in a matchup of Brazilian teams in Curitiba; Santos of Brazil beat Gimnasia y Esgrima of Argentina 3-0; and Velez Sarsfield of Argentina beat defending champion Internacional of Brazil 3-0. In Curitiba, Brazil, Flamengo beat Parana 1-0 to take over first place in Group 5. Renato scored on a header at 24 minutes to give the five-time national champions all they needed for the win. Flamengo now has seven points in Group 5, while previously unbeaten Parana has six. Bolivia's Real Potosi has two and Venezuela's Maracaibo has one. Playing at home in Curitiba, 420 miles (677 kilometers) southwest of Rio de Janeiro, Parana came out aggressively and put pressure on the Flamengo defense. Striker Josiel broke in twice on Flamengo goalkeeper Bruno but finished poorly. Flamengo responded physically, and play got rough. At 22 minutes, striker Souza accidentally kicked Parana defender Joao Vitor and broke his arm. He was replaced by midfielder Joelson. Two minutes later, Flamengo opened the scoring on a cross from wingback Leonardo Moura that Renato headed over goalkeeper Flavio for a 1-0 lead. Gimnasia v Esgrima Santos closed in on a second-round berth with a 3-0 victory at home over Argentina's Gimnasia y Esgrima. Marcos Aurelio, Cleber Santana and Ze Roberto scored to give the two-time Libertadores champion its third straight win. Santos has nine points in three matches, while Gimnasia and Uruguay's Defensor Sporting have three points. Winless Colombia's Deportivo Pasto, which hosts Defensor Sporting on Thursday, is last with zero points. After some early jousting, Santos jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 5 minutes with a little help from the Argentines. Striker Marcos Aurelio took a pass from Kleber at the top of the penalty area and shot wide, but Gimnasia defender Santiago Gentiletti tried to clear and tapped the ball into his own goal for a 1-0 Santos lead.
