New Delhi:
India will feature in the Asia Pacific Car Rally map for the first time when Bangalore hosts the MRF India Cup from December 6 to 8. The rally, a Candidate round in its inaugural year, will become a permanent fixture in the Asia-Pacific Rally Championships and termed MRF Car Rally after assessment by FIA, the sports' world governing body. "The Candidate round was originally planned for last year but was cancelled as the sponsors First Motorsports of Honk Kong withdrew as they suffered losses due to foot-and-mouth disease in England," Nazir Hoosein, President of the Motorsports Association of India, told reporters here today. "Our target is 20 cars from abroad. The APRC is our first step, and the World Rally is the next," said Hoosein. Earlier this month, MRF launched their Formule Mondiale karting tyre in conjunction with the launch of the first ever Formule Mondiale Championships to be held in Chennai, Mumbai and Bangalore later this year. Hoosein clarified that all manufacturers were welcome to participate in the rally. "MAI is run under the aegis of FIA. JK Tyres are welcome if they are willing to run under the aegis of FIA. We will certainly provide a level playing field," said Hoosein. (PTI)Topics mentioned in this article
