Suzuka:
After a season when he collected a record-equalling fifth world title, a record number of victories, a record number of championship points and led Ferrari to a dominating season, Michael Schumacher can rest. But only for a while. After all, he wants to make sure his run continues next season. The German ace led Rubens Barrichello in another 1-2 finish for Ferrari in yesterday's Japanese Grand Prix, the final race of the Formula One season. He and Barrichello accounted for the last five consecutive 1-2 finishes and nine in the season. The last time Ferrari lost was in May at the Monaco Grand Prix. The only other time Ferrari didn't win was in March at the Malaysian Grand Prix, when Schumacher had to get a front wing repaired, restart from behind the field and still finished third. Next assignment: prepare for the opening of the 2003 season in Australia next March. "From our point of view, it is a little bit easier because we have done our job and we can relax until the engineers come back with a new car," said Schumacher. "We are normally back testing in January or maybe we will have some reasons to go and use the three-week opportunity to go testing in November-December and we will find out if it is necessary," he added.
