Mumbai:
The FIA Asia Pacific Rally Championship in the form of the MRF India Rally 2003 is all set to hit the Pune terrains from December 5. Mumbai witnessed a ceremonial flag off to this event by the Deputy Chief minister of Maharastra, a day before the actual championship. The motorsport action, which is spread across three days will begin along the most scenic and historic dirt roads around the Lake City near Pune. There will be 13 special stages, covering 250 kilometres. The Rally will see over 20 international competitors driving top rally cars such as Mitsubishi Lancer, Subaru Impreza, Suzuki Ignis, Ford Escort and Proton Pert. The Asia Pacific Rally has one woman participant while the Indian National rally, which will also be held on the same days, has its very own women team. The participants as well as the organisers feel that the track will be a difficult one, but they also feel that this could well be a prelude to India hosting the world championship. And experts are hoping that the next three days of exhilarating action is just the beginning of motorsports in India.Topics mentioned in this article
