Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) on Saturday banned a system being developed by Lotus and Ferrari to keep the car more stable during braking.
Known as the ride-height control system, the BBC reported that the device was earlier deemed legal but a decision to revert was made after more investigations and representations from some other teams.
The reason for the change in decision is being seen as the fact that the system seeks to improve the overall aerodynamics of the car. In simple terms, the device sought to retain the car's height close to the constant during braking to maintain the airflow and improve performance.
The same report further said that when it was established that it would improve the aerodynamic of the car, it was an obvious decision to pull the plug on it. Lotus and Ferrari though have not been too concerned by the decision made, it has been learnt.
