London:
Formula One chief executive Bernie Ecclestone has said that the signing of Narain Karthikeyan by the Jordan team will create a massive rise of interest in the sport in India. The 28-year-old will become the first Indian to take part in an F-1 Grand Prix when he lines up for the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne next month. "I suppose there's no reason why we can't create the same sort of audience that cricket has, which is quite considerable as you know," said Ecclestone. A rise in the interest for the game might even see India host a grand prix. Ecclestone has been instrumental in setting up new grand prix venues in Bahrain, China and Turkey, and he is optimistic about India's chances. "Yes, sure, definitely. It's a case of where at the moment and when," he said. When asked where in India did he see maximum interest among the people, Ecclestone replied, "Mostly, the obvious places. I mean, probably we will finish in Bombay."Topics mentioned in this article
