Laguna Seca:
Nicky Hayden continued his great form at Laguna Seca on Saturday, setting the day's fastest time in final practice ahead of the US MotoGP. The 23 year-old Californian clinched his first-ever pole position, thanks to a best of one minute 22.670 seconds. Tucked in second place was world champion Valentino Rossi, who posted a mark of one minute 23.024 seconds on his Yamaha. Alex Barros will start third on the grid thanks to a time of one minute 23.312 seconds. Barros' Honda Pons teammate, Troy Bayliss of Australia posted 0.046 seconds in arrears. Troy knows this part of the world very well as a former World Superbike champion. In fifth and sixth places were a brace of Americans, Colin Edwards and John Hopkins. Kenny Roberts Sr. enjoyed some of his greatest triumphs at Laguna Seca. The Jr. version hasn't been quite so successful here and managed only 12th fastest on Saturday for the Red Bull Suzuki team.
