Carlos Sainz made history on Sunday by winning the Rally Argentina to become the most successful rally driver. Sainz did not win a stage on the final day, but instead opted to steer clear of trouble before winning by one minute 32.5 seconds. The Spaniard finished ahead of fellow Citroen driver Sebastien Loeb. Loeb wins first stage Loeb won the day's first stage but from then on took a cautious approach, preferring to settle for eight points to stretch his lead in the world championship to 17 points with eight rounds remaining after his three closest rivals all failed to score points. Ford's Belgian Francois Duval was third, four minutes and 23 seconds adrift of Sainz. Finland's Mikko Hirvonen was fourth for Subaru eight minutes 27.7 seconds adrift. Another Finn, Harri Rovanpera in a Peugeot was the fastest man on Sunday, taking three of the five stages on his way to fifth place. Sainz, a twice world champion and now the most successful driver in the history of world rallying in terms of wins, coasted through the final day for the 42-year-old's first victory since Turkey last year.
