The Ferrari cars in fact dominate the front of the grid with team-mate Felipe Massa just two hundredths of a second behind him in qualifying.
The two McLarens of Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton took 3rd and 4th place on the grid.
Robert Kubica qualified fifth in his BMW Sauber, but was subsequently demoted 10 places down the grid following an engine change.
McLaren heads into this race off the back of the spygate scandal that saw the team thrown out of the Constructors championship, but in the driver's standings, Lewis Hamilton is currently 3 points ahead of Alonso.
