Virginia Water, England:
Olazabal and McGinley have both said they hope to play when Europe defends the title against the United States at Valhalla in Louisville, Kentucky.
Faldo said he can change his assistants if needed near the end of qualifying in August.
"Their No 1 goals are to make the team and I'm fully supportive of that," he said. "If they do, I'll come up with some more names. But if one or both do not make the 2008 team, they are my captains at the match."
Olazabal and McGinley both played on the European team that beat the Americans in Ireland in September.
Olazabal, a 41-year-old Spaniard, has played in seven Ryder Cups. He made the team again last year after a seven-year absence. He and Seve Ballesteros formed a strong partnership, winning 11, halving two and losing two of their 15 matches as partners.
McGinley, an Irishman, played on the last three winning Ryder Cup teams. He made the winning putt at The Belfry in 2002.
Faldo, in his first news conference as Ryder Cup captain, said he picked the pair to get insight and information about the players who are candidates to make the team.
