Gurgaon:
The highest-ranked golfer ever to play on Indian soil, Vijay Singh of Fiji Islands is in India. Singh, ranked fourth in all-time career earnings on the US PGA Tour and currently world number seven, is here to showcase his skills in the BILT Skins Golf Tournament at the DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurgaon. Singh has won two golf majors a€"the 1998 US PGA Championships and the 2000 Augusta Masters. And returning home to the land of his roots after nearly 20 years meant a lot to the Fijian Golfer of Indian origin. "A lot has been said about me not recognising my roots, which is not true," says Singh. The golfers visit to the country follows his win at the five million dollar Tour Championship in Atlanta. He says his career was at its peak and was keen to carry on his form into the next season. For the moment, though, Singh does not intend to follow in the footsteps of other Golfers like Greg Norman, who have branched out into areas like designing golf courses. "My goals are still on the golf course right now," he said.Topics mentioned in this article
