Tiger Woods played a practice round at the Congressional Golf Club on Tuesday before addressing the media for the first time as a father.

Sounding emotional at times, Woods said that he hadn't been getting much sleep and that he had been "changing diapers and doing feedings."

Still, his expectation for his this week's AT&T National will be the same as all the others events: to win.

The subject of Woods' late father, a former Green Beret who served two tours in Vietnam, came up frequently as Woods spoke about his newborn.

He named his daughter Sam because that's what Earl Woods used to call his son, even though Tiger's real name is Eldrick.

"Well Sam...we wanted to have a name that would be meaningful to either side of the family - either my side or Elin's side. And because she was born basically on an extension of Father's Day it just happen to fit.

"My father had always called me Sam since the day I was born. It was weird he really never called me Tiger. I would ask him, 'why don't you ever call me Tiger' and he would say, 'eh, you like more like a Sam'. I said, 'alright, that's cool,'" he said.

Woods, who has donated 30,000 AT&T National tickets to military personnel, will tee off as the event's host on Thursday.
