The par-72 Mystic Rock course is ten years old and has hosted the 84 Lumber Classic since 2003. Fiji's Vijay Singh worked hard to come back into contention after a third round 73. He birdied the 13th hole, his sixth of seven fourth round birdies. The world number two finished joint 13th after shooting a 68. Craig Barlow started his final round strongly. His second shot on the second hole spun back for an easy tap in birdie but he quickly fell from contention with six bogeys. Paraguay's Carlos Franco steadily climbed up the leaderboard. He chipped in for birdie on the fifth hole to go to 11 under par. Tim Herron moved into a tie with Franco with his birdie on the 13th hole. Phil Mickelson had a disappointing tournament but was warmly embraced by the Pennsylvania crowd. He nearly holed his tee shot on the 17th hole to thunderous applause. He missed the birdie putt, however, and would par the hole. Mickelson ended the tournament ten shots off the pace. Ben Crane was among the leaders all day and had to putt from the fringe to save par on the 18th hole. He finished at 11-under with a 67. Jason Gore, leading by two strokes entering the final round, increased his advantage to four with five holes to play. His beautiful approach at the 13th hole set up a tap in birdie that took him to 16 under. But a tight finish was guaranteed when Gore faltered with bogeys on the 14th and 17th holes. Franco missed multiple chances to move past Gore. None were closer than his birdie putt on the 14th hole, which frustratingly hung up on the lip. Franco was in the clubhouse when Gore came to the 18th hole needing a short parputt to hold on to win. Gore sank it to take his first PGA Tour victory. It was the first time a player won on a sponsor's exemption since 2003 when Adam Scott won the Duetsche Bank Championship. Gore joins Paul Stankowski (1996) as the only golfers to win on the developmental Nationwide and PGA tours in the same year. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
