New Orleans:
American Chris Couch carded an eight under par 64 at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans to close day three on 12 under par on Saturday. He now leads by one shot from overnight leader Joe Durant and fellow American Charles Howell III. Dean Wilson started the day in a share of 58th place, having just made the cut on four under par. But he stormed into contention with an excellent six under par 66 in the difficult conditions. He lies tied for fourth place with Cameron Beckman on 10 under par. Couch who also started the day on the cut line on four under par. One day after closing with two tough pars to make the cut on the number, he piled up nine birdies and just the one bogey in gusty conditions and charged up the leaderboard with an eight under par 64. That left him on 12 under par and in an unlikely lead. Fine form Durant was in fine form putting on Saturday. The second round leader made a birdie from more than 40-feet away on the 13th hole that improved his score to 11 under par. Australian Stephen Leaney is among a talented group of players at nine under par, three shots behind Couch. Leaney had a 72 and shares sixth place with the likes of Masters champion Phil Mickelson, Englishman Ian Poulter and Paraguay's Carlos Franco. Durant held his nerve over the closing holes and sank this lengthy birdie putt on the 18th hole to finish with a 73, one shot behind Couch. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
