Kolkata: A team of Pakistani golfers is in Kolkata for the Amatuer Golf Championship. On the greens of the Royal Calcutta Golf Club, the thunder of Indo-Pak rhetoric is almost unreal, for Vaqas Ahmed from Rawalpindi and India's defending amateur champion Manab Das. "Pakistan is always nice to play with, given our histories, and we also get along very well. Our common language helps. It is always nice to come one-up with them, whatever the competition," said Das. "I didn't play with the Indians in the last two days. But I've played with them before in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh," said Ahmed. Five years back, Ahmed was in Mumbai when Shiv Sena protests forced the rescheduling of the Amateur Golf Championship. He didn't feel threatened and he is sure India's cricket team won't either when they come to Pakistan in March. "It will be pretty safe. I saw the security during the South African's visit. All the roads are closed, ordinary people are not allowed into hotels," added Ahmed. Eleven teams from eight countries are participating in this 102nd amatuer meet. India has won the international team event. 64 golfers will be competing in the knock-out round that begins Wednesday.
