New Delhi:
"It's incredible to see an Indian be in contention for a Major. Jeev's performance is all the more special because the conditions were very tough and he was competing against the best in the world. I'm sure many Indian golfers would like to follow in Jeev's footsteps," said Shiv Kapur as Jeev finished tied ninth at the PGA Championships on Sunday.
Jeev shot a final round of three-over 73 and totalled five-over 285. Padraig Harrington won his second successive Major with two successive rounds of 66 each.
Gaurav Ghei said: "It's absolutely fantastic to have an Indian finish in the top-10 at a Major. Jeev Milkha Singh has been a pioneer for Indian golf since he was the first Indian to taste success outside of India and then also became the first Indian to win a title on European soil. Jeev has now achieved another first for Indian golf.
Said Rahil Gangjee: "I would like to congratulate Jeev on his tied ninth finish at the USPGA. He deserves all the accolades as his performances have raised the profile of Indian golf. I was expecting him to do really well at the USPGA Championship because he has a great run over the last few months. I was ecstatic when he led after the first round."
Ajai Gupta, Tour Commissioner, Professional Golfers Tour of India (PGTI), termed Jeev's performance at the USPGA Championship as a landmark.
"It's the first top-10 finish for an Indian at a Major. His feat is a reflection of the rising standards of Indian golf and will inspire many upcoming golfers in this country. This is a proud moment for all of us at PGTI."
SSP Chowrasia, the Emaar MGF Indian Masters Champion, added: "I really felt great when I heard about Jeev's tied ninth finish at the USPGA Championship. His performance has boosted my confidence because I often practice with him on the European Tour. Jeev's performance will give tremendous confidence to all Indian golfers, especially those who are playing at the international level."
