Punjab outplays West Bengal for men's bronze
Hosts Punjab won a consolation bronze in men's hockey today after losing to Services in the semi-finals at the 31st National Games.

Hosts Punjab won a consolation bronze in men's hockey today after losing to Services in the semi-finals at the 31st National Games. Winners last time, Punjab drubbed West Bengal 3-0 in the play-off to finish third with goals from Rajinder Singh (two) and Jagbir Singh. Punjab, who were edged out 3-2 by Services in the semis yesterday, dominated throughout against Bengal. Combining well, Punjab played artistic hockey and delighted with superb stickwork. From the word go, they gave no respite to Bengal launching repeated attack's on the rival citadel and yet the first half remained goalless. Despite playing attractive hockey a goal eluded Punjab as the first goal came only in the 50th minute when Rajinder Singh sounded the boards from a penalty corner. The goal pepped up the hosts and a wave of attacks followed. Punjab stretched the lead to 2-0 through Jagbir Singh and Rajinder Singh scored one more to complete the tally off another penalty corner in the 68th minute. (PTI)Topics mentioned in this article
