Melbourne:
India finished sixth in the men's hockey competition at the Commonwealth Games after losing to New Zealand 1-2. Sandeep Singh gave India the lead with a penalty corner conversion in the first half. Bevan Harry then produced the equaliser for the Kiwis in the second half before slotting home the winner in extra time. Phillip Burrows struck a golden goal three minutes into the extra time to ensure New Zealand were placed one rung above India in the final rankings. The Indians seemed far from their best, but still created several scoring opportunities that went waste. Three Indian players Sandeep Singh, Kanwalpreet Singh and Tejbir were given temporary marching order for yellow card offences. (PTI)Topics mentioned in this article
