New Delhi: Vidya Stokes, who on Wednesday resigned as Hockey India president three months after winning a controversial election, said it was a "burden" on her to continue at the top post as it involved a lot of responsibility.
"I would not be able to take the burden of continuing as the president of Hockey India as it involves a lot of responsibility. I don't think I would be able to fulfil it to the best of my ability. I have conveyed it to the president of FIH (International Hockey Federation)," she said.
Her surprise resignation is being widely interpreted as a move to appease the Sports Ministry, which had de-recognised HI for flouting its age guidelines.
