New Delhi:
Olympian Rajinder Singh, coach of the victorious Indian team in the junior World Cup, was today elevated to the senior team for the upcoming Australian tour. A solid fullback in his playing days, Rajinder Singh shot into the limelight once again after the junior team's World Cup triumph at Hobart (Australia) last year. Indian Hockey Federation's Secretary General K Jothikumaran said Singh would be assisted by N S Sodhi and A E Brient. The mantle fell on him after C R Kumar, in charge of the team after Cedric D' Souza was unceremoniously sacked midway through the World Cup at Kuala Lumpur, ruled himself out. Jothikumaran also announced a list of 30 probables for the camp to be held in New Delhi from April 26 for the Australian tour, which is part of the preparations for the Asian Games and the Champions Trophy later this year. The list does not include star striker Dhanraj Pillay and young Len Aiyappa as both are playing in the Malaysian league. The list contains five goalkeepers, 6 full backs, 8 half backs, 11 forwards. The trainer of the team will be Sampath Kumar of Services. (PTI)Topics mentioned in this article
