New Delhi: Indian eves on Thursday defeated Italy 1-0 in the ongoing qualifiers at the National Stadium here to set up a final against South Africa.
With the match being played in the middle-half of the pitch for most parts, a breakthrough eluded both teams despite numerous chances. The battle swung from one half of the pitch to the other but the mid-fielders ensured that the transitions from defense to attack came to a naught. India however managed to dominate the possession (59-41 approximately)
It was only in the 52nd minute that the hosts managed to carve a slender lead when a penalty corner was converted by Ritu Rani. Italy responded and earned three penalty corners in the ensuing minutes but failed to crack the defense.
