New Delhi: Former captain Sunil Gavaskar feels not having Virender Sehwag in the playing XI against Australia went against India as the team crashed to an embarrassing 9-wicket defeat in Colombo on Friday.
Speaking to NDTV, Gavaskar said that the fear factor instilled in the opposition camp when Sehwag plays was lost in the Super 8s clash against George Bailey's side. "Gautam Gambhir is a very good street smart cricketer. He has a very good understanding with Sehwag and so breaking their partnership was not a good idea. He (Sehwag) has a fear factor against the opposition," he said.
India had a decent start through Gambhir against Australia but lost out soon after he left the middle. "6 or 7 overs of Virender Sehwag can make a difference. He scores at at least more than 6 runs per over," said Gavaskar. India after smacking 50 off just 5.5 overs, eventually posted a target of just 140.
