Edgbaston: He was expected to rescue India in the series through his trademark style of batting. In the first innings of the third Test against England on Wednesday however, Virender Sehwag failed to last more than a delivery as he was removed for a golden duck by Stuart Broad.
England won the toss in overcast conditions at Edgbaston and put the India in the bat. Although the opening over from James Anderson was negotiated by a tentative Gautam Gambhir, the first ball after the change in ends gave the hosts success. Sehwag looked to lower his bat to avoid an in-swinging delivery, only for it to kiss his gloves en route to wicketkeeper Matt Prior.
Although the on-field umpire rejected the appeal, a review clearly showed that contact had been made. India 8 for 1.
