ICC Awards: Ashwin says the day was just an off for his team
Spinner R Ashwin said on Thursday, that the decision to attend the ICC Awards was one that needed to be made by authorities (Board of Control for Cricket in India) rather than the team. Spinner R Ashwin said on Thursday, that the decision to attend the ICC Awards was one that needed to be made by authorities (Board of Control for Cricket in India) rather than the team. Speaking at a press conference on the eve of the final ODI against England, Ashwin said that if left to the players, a rest would have been preferred in any case.
Ashwin said that the day of the awards was like a day off for the Indian players. "See, it's basically dependent on authorities as to what they want us to do. If they are going to ask us to go, we have to go. And if they had no intimation, as a player I would rather try and take a day off," he said.
Ashwin was clear that he was not trying to be on the safe side. "It was just a day off for me. That's all that I would comment."
