Rahul Dravid plays his final ODI at Cardiff on Friday and on the eve of the match, Dravid spoke to NDTV, urging youngsters to get their foundation right.
Speaking on the sidelines of the final match against England at Cardiff, Dravid said he was confident that a young Indian team has done well in cricket and will continue to do so. "I played my last match 2 years ago so my life is not going to change much but it is nice to get an opportunity and get a closure." (Watch the interview here)
Dravid (38) made his ODI debut in 1996 and was seen as one of the most technical players in the game. Not much has changed in his approach towards batting since. "A solid foundation is the key to success in any format of the game. Look at greats like Brian Lara and Ricky Ponting. Even Chris Gayle is an IPL star who has done well in Tests. A sound technique will help budding cricketers go a long way," he said.
The veteran batsman who has been called 'The Wall' for anchoring India's innings on several occasions, however, was categorical that age mattered little when it came to choosing the national side. "The best team should always play for India irrespective of the age," he said.
