Sydney: George Bailey has "all but blasted" his way into Australia's Test side for the Ashes opener against England on his recent scintillating form, reports said Thursday.

The 31-year-old right-hander, already earmarked by chief selector John Inverarity as an Ashes contender, boosted his case with a spectacular 156 off 114 balls against India on Wednesday. (6th ODI as it happened)

It was the ninth-biggest one-day international score by an Australian and followed recent knocks of 85, 92 not out and 98, making him favourite for the number six slot ahead of the first Test, starting in Brisbane on November 21.
