Australia axe 4 players after protocol breach; angry Shane Watson heads home

Watson, Pattinson, Mitchell Johnson, the left-arm paceman, and Usman Khawaja, expected to return to the Test XI, were axed from the squad for not complying with team orders. It is learnt that they were asked to make a presentation by Mickey Arthur, the coach, and failed to do so.

Mohali: Vice-captain Shane Watson is heading back to Australia to be with his wife, who is expecting a baby, after being dropped for the third Test against India. Reports, though, suggest that Watson's decision was not influenced by the axe.

In an unprecedented move, Australia today axed Watson and three other key players from the side for the third Test against India for failing to obey team management orders, giving a shocking twist to their already disastrous tour.

Watson, pacers James Pattinson and Mitchell Johnson and batsman Usman Khawaja were dropped for failing to make a presentation on how to improve their personal as well as the team's performance after the innings and 135 runs defeat in the second Test in Hyderabad.
