Ahmedabad: Fourth day's highlights:

# Alastair Cook's superb unbeaten 168 is the highest individual innings by a visiting England skipper and the fourth highest by a visiting captain on Indian soil. West Indian, Clive Lloyd, with 242 not out in the 1974-75 Mumbai Test, holds a record for the highest individual innings by a captain in a Test match in India.

# Cook (41 + 168 not out) has become the first England captain to score 200 runs or more in a Test match against India in India.

# Cook has posted his 21st Test hundred - his third against India. He has recorded eleven hundreds overseas.

# Cook's aforesaid innings is his highest against India in India in Tests - his second highest, next only to the career-best 294 in the 2011 Edgbaston Test.

# The above innings is the seventh highest for England in India in Tests. Mike Gatting (207) and Graeme Fowler (201) are the only two batsmen to post double hundreds in India, both accomplishing the feats in the same innings in the 1984-85 Chennai Test.

# Cook became the ninth English batsman to amass 1,000 runs against India in Tests - 1084 at an average of 54.20 in 12 Tests, including three hundreds and four fifties.

# Cook has made 150 or more six times in his career - twice each against India and Australia once each against Bangladesh and the West Indies.

# Cook has posted his third consecutive century as
England captain - his scores are 173 & 39 at Chittagong, 21 & 109 not out at Mirpur - against Bangladesh in March 2010 and 41 & 168 not out against India at Ahmedabad.

# Cook's impressive tally of 21 hundreds is the joint second for England. Wally Hammond, Geoff Boycott and Colin Cowdrey have posted 22 hundreds each.

# Cook became the fifth England skipper to register a hundred in a Test in India, joining Kevin Pietersen, Ted Dexter, Tony Lewis and Tony Greig.

# Matt Prior (84 not out) has recorded his highest score in Tests in India. His tally of 132 (48 + 84 not out) is the highest in a Test match in India. His fourth half-century against India is his 23rd in Tests.

# Prior's brilliant unbeaten 84 is the second highest by an England wicketkeeper in a Test innings in India. Dick Spooner had registered 92 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata in 1951-52

# Cook and Compton were involved in a stand of 123 - England's second highest for the first wicket against India at Sardar Patel Stadium - the highest is 124
between Butcher and Trescothick in December 2001.

# Prior's average of 43.83 in Tests is the highest amongst the England wicketkeepers (minimum 500 runs).
