Injured pacer Mohammad Shami has been ruled out of the first three ODIs between India and Sri Lanka. He has been replaced by Dhawal Kulkarni. India and Sri Lanka will play five ODIs starting in Cuttack on November 2.
While Shami has the experience of 36 ODIs in which the 24-year-old has taken 68 wickets, Kulkarni is still looking for his first scalp in the format. On debut against England in September, the Mumbai bowler went wicketless despite having claimed 188 first-class wickets. India though will primarily rely on spin against the Lankans with Ravichandran Ashwin returning to the side after he was rested against West Indies. The team will be captained by Virat Kohli as Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been rested. The Lankans will be led by Angelo Mathews.
