The lawyer representing S Sreesanth, one of three Rajasthan Royals cricketers charged with spot fixing during the ongoing Pepsi Indian Premier League 2013, has accused the police of trying to tarnish Sreesanth's reputation.
Rebecca John, Sreesanth's lawyer, said police involved in the corruption probe were "deliberately planting leaks" in the media against her client. John's comments came a day after Sreesanth as well as Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila were refused bail following their court appearance over the scandal. Sreesanth, for his part, released a statement through John on Tuesday, where he said, "I am innocent and have done no wrong. I have utmost faith in our judicial process and I am confident that with time I will be proved innocent, and my honour and dignity will be vindicated and restored."
