Letting IPL players to stay causes media outrage in Lanka

The Sri Lankan media demanded the resignation of Sports Minister Mahindanada Aluthgamage after his u-turn on the IPL players.

Colombo: The Sri Lankan media criticised Sports Minister Mahindanada Aluthgamage on Saturday, demanding his resignation after he was forced to make an U-turn on his directive that Sri Lankan players in the IPL must put the country before cash-rich league.

Aluthgamage ordered that players must return to Colombo by May 5 to prepare for the tour of England.

However in a complete U-turn on Thursday, he let the players to stay in India until May 18 and travel direct to England to join the squad.
