Johannesburg: South African pacer Vernon Philander feels losing pacer Morne Morkel to injury has compounded matters for his team in the opening Test against India here. Morkel twisted his ankle in the first session on third day on Friday and is now out of this Test match, as well as in serious doubt for the second Test in Durban.
"Losing Morne was very painful. From then, we knew that Dale Steyn, Jacques Kallis and I will have to share the bowling load, with the spinners going for runs. It was a tough day to be in Graeme Smith's shoes, one of those days," said Philander.
"He won't be bowling further in this match," Philander confirmed. (Highlights)
